Welcome to The Root User

My name is Charles Ivan Windon, but I’ve always gone by Ivan. I’ve been working in IT since 1998, with a career spanning systems administration, networking, and now cloud infrastructure in high-security environments. As a Linux cloud security engineer, I focus on building secure, scalable systems across Azure, AWS, and Oracle GovCloud platforms.”

Penn State World Campus

I earned my Associate degree in Information Sciences and Technology from Pennsylvania State University – World Campus, graduating with distinction in 2015. I also hold a certificate in Security and Risk Analysis, which aligns with my current focus on cybersecurity and my goal of earning the CompTIA Security+ certification.

Over the years, I’ve worked with a wide range of technologies including:

  • Operating Systems: Linux (RHEL, Ubuntu, CentOS), Windows Server
  • Cloud Platforms: Azure, AWS, Oracle Cloud, Google Cloud
  • DevOps & Automation: Python scripting, CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code
  • AI & Chatbots: IBM Watson Assistant, chatbot development and integration
  • Networking & Security: Cisco, Meraki, Ubiquiti, Juniper, Sophos UTM, Forcepoint, F5
  • Tools & Protocols: Wireshark, Lumension, systemd, NFS, SSH, and more

My future career goals center around Information Security and Cloud Architecture, with a strong emphasis on building secure, scalable, and compliant systems for government and enterprise environments.

This blog is where I share insights, troubleshooting guides, and best practices—especially around Linux, security, and cloud technologies. Whether you’re a fellow engineer, a student, or just curious about the tech stack behind modern infrastructure, I hope you find something useful here

Feel free to reach out if you have questions or want to collaborate.
